Permission Marketing
The concept of Permission Marketing is at the core of Internet marketing and the foundation of any successful website.

What is Permission Marketing?
One way of looking at permission marketing is to compare it with interruption marketing. Cold calls, even TV advertising is interruption marketing.  You are interrupted in what you really want to be doing - watching a TV programme or working for instance. This form of marketing will decline over time.  Why? Because we would all far rather decide when or whether we want to see an ad (Witness the success of 1 minute ads emailed around the Internet) or who we want to receive a call from.  In contrast to interruption marketing, the concept of Permission Marketing depends on the consent of the party being marketed to.

A small interruption
However, even permission marketing often has to start with a small interruption - like a well-targeted email.  That small interruption is designed to get your target to raise their hand. To do so it has to comprise an attractive offer - a free product, sample or service for instance. The point is that after that permission has been granted, you have the opportunity to commence a productive dialogue, which very importantly, your target should be able to withdraw their permission from at any time.

Email Marketing
This is the idea behind effective email marketing.  Send a concise and compelling offer to your targets via a pleasing to look at HTML-based email. They respond (volunteer) directly to your website, where they profile themselves, and thereby give you the chance to talk more directly to their interests and needs later. And a dialogue commences.  They may become customers straight away or not for years.  But you will never interrupt them again; you will have a relationship with them - for as long as they give you permission (don't unsubscribe).

And the great thing for the emarketer is - you will be able to see how many people opened your emails, how many times they opened it, how many got forwarded, how many clicked through to your website, where they went, and how many responded to your offers or bought something online.  You will be able to measure your RoI (return on investment) and develop even more strategies for your next campaign.  No other form of marketing give you such accurate results or clear return on investment
